Greetings! Welcome to the first day!

Today, we begin reviewing plot elements, so activity 2 and the homework are going to review the plot elements of conflict and resolution. The other activities are about getting to know each other and setting up our English 8 Notebooks, so we can get to gettin'.

Activity 1. Do Now
On the notecard, respond to these 5 questions. No, it doesn't have to be in complete sentences. Do not share your answers. We'll be using these cards to guess who belongs to each card.

Activity 2: What's On Your Mind Group Activity
Objective: Create a story with your group and act it out, so we can identify the conflict, the resolution, and the genre.

Activity 3: Setting up our English 8 Notebook
You may use a spiral or a composition book. This is where we will record ALL our work. It's up to you. See the about 1 minute video below if you need help setting up your notebook.

Homework Due Monday, August 15
Watch "The Evolution of Michael Phelps" (15 minute video) from SC Features: The Power of Sports. There is an objectionable word bleeped out. If your parent/guardian objects to this, please let me know, and I'll provide an alternate assignment.

Make this template below in your English 8 Notebook and record your responses for the Michael Phelps video. This template should look familiar. It's Cornell notes, and it rocks!
